The Plaquemines Parish Clerk of Courtís office is open; however, starting March 20th, all business will be conducted at the door, and the public will not be allowed to enter our office. We have suspended the processing of passports and birth/death certificates. We are taking these steps in order to comply with federal, state and local guidance and to protect the health and safety of our staff and the public. We suggest that customers electronically file court documents (civil) through our Odyssey eFileLA program at www.efile-la.com or fax filing. Visit our website for information on eRecording land records. The April 4 Presidential Preference Primary has been rescheduled to June 20. The duties and responsibilities of the Clerk of Court are established by the Louisiana Constitution. Under the Constitution the Clerk serves as the Recorder of Deeds and Mortgages, Clerk of the District Court, Treasurer for the Court system, and Chief Election Officer of the parish.
The Clerk of Court's office is not funded by ad valorem taxes. The operations of the office, including the salaries and benefits of the employees, are entirely funded by the collection of fees for the services the office provides. The Louisiana Legislature statutorily establishes all fees.
